Turkish Parliament Prepares for IPU Assembly in Istanbul
Numan Kurtulmuş met with IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong and Assembly Secretary Kareen Jabre to review preparations for the 152nd IPU Assembly, which will be hosted in Istanbul.
The discussions took place at the Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel, the official venue for the upcoming assembly, and focused on logistical planning and the overall program structure.
Organizers confirmed that the event will include an extensive schedule of more than 80 side activities, such as meetings of standing committees, thematic discussions, and various forums addressing global parliamentary priorities.
The assembly will be centered around the theme “Parliamentary Action for Peace, Justice and Sustainable Development for Future Generations.”
Ahead of the main sessions, Kurtulmuş also participated in the IPU Executive Committee meeting and delivered remarks during the opening proceedings.
He emphasized that the international system is currently facing growing instability and increasingly complex challenges, arguing that parliaments must take on a more active and responsible role in shaping solutions.
He also highlighted the importance of enhancing dialogue between nations, collectively opposing injustice and conflict, and generating forward-looking ideas aimed at improving global governance for future generations.
According to him, the themes guiding the assembly—peacebuilding, justice, and long-term sustainability—represent not just ideals, but essential responsibilities that legislatures must actively uphold.
