Turkish FM Consults Iran, Qatar on US-Iran Ceasefire, Regional Peace

(MENAFN) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held separate phone conversations on Wednesday with his Iranian and Qatari counterparts to discuss the recently announced two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran and explore steps toward lasting regional peace, according to diplomatic sources.

Sources from Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry said Fidan spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, expressing Ankara’s approval of the temporary truce and reiterating Türkiye’s commitment to efforts aimed at securing a permanent peace.

Fidan emphasized that Türkiye would continue working to ensure the ceasefire leads to a sustainable and long-term solution, the sources added.

In a separate call, Fidan also spoke with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, with the officials discussing measures needed to transform the temporary truce into enduring regional stability.

The US announced the two-week ceasefire on Tuesday, noting that Tehran had submitted a “workable” 10-point plan for negotiations. According to reports, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council stated that the plan, delivered through Pakistani mediation, includes US commitments to non-aggression, continued Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz, acceptance of uranium enrichment, and the lifting of all primary and secondary sanctions.
